From analysis to synthesis - spanning all domains of life

Biological signalling regulates all cellular processes in all types of cells. The BIOSS Centre for Biological Signalling Studies in Freiburg uses modern analytical methods and strategies of synthetic and chemical biology to study biological signalling processes in a creative way, following the maxim “From analysis to synthesis – spanning all domains of life”.

BIOSS was founded through the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) Excellence Strategy as a cluster of Excellence in 2007, and successfully obtained renewal funding in 2012 for a further six years. From 2019 on, BIOSS continues the research and training program as well as the services to the life science community as a Centre of the University of Freiburg, sustainably funded by the University and the Ministry of Science and Education (MWK) of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
