This review covers the efforts in developing Lab-on-a-Chip solutions based on thin and flexible films (Lab-on-a-Foil). Those approaches benefit from fabrication methods that are partly adopted from well-established macroscale processes or are completely new. Also, flexible foils enable various features; low thermal resistance, new design freedom, etc. The review focuses on materials, fabrication processes and integrated microfluidic functions, followed by examples for Lab-on-a-Foil applications.
