The pathogenic mechanisms driving Sjögren s syndrome (SS) are unclear. Okuma and colleagues demonstrate that tissue-specific dysfunction, namely deficiency of the transcriptional regulator I B- in epithelial cells, rather than hematopoietic cell pathology, is sufficient to elicit SS-like inflammation.
