Mitochondrial dynamics and the ER: The plant perspective
25.11.2015 Müller SJ, Reski R Front. Cell Dev. Biol. 3:78. doi: 10.3389/fcell.2015.00078 Front. Cell Dev. Biol. online article Contact sites between mitochondria and the ER are linked to organelle dynamics, signalling, and the transfer of molecules between these important subcellular compartments in animals and fungi. However, the importance of this organellar interface and the molecular effectors are largely unknown for plants. We give a comparative overview over evolutionary differences in ER/mitochondrial interfaces and provide microscopic evidence for ER/mitochondrial interactions in the model moss Physcomitrella patens.
