Mutations in the complement-regulatory glycoprotein factor H can lead to severe renal and eye disease, however, no therapeutical factor H is commercially available yet. Here, we present the production of a glyco-optimized recombinant factor H in Physcomitrella patens which showed full bioactivity similar to plasma-derived factor H. The therapeutic potential of moss-derived factor H was proven in a murine model of C3 glomerulopathy in vivo.
