Cyclic-di-GMP is a ubiquitous second messenger in bacteria. Several c-di-GMP receptor proteins have been identified to date, and downstream signaling pathways are often mediated through protein-protein interactions. The photoreceptor Cph2 from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis 6803 has been shown to act as a blue-light triggered c-di-GMP producer. In this study, we demonstrate that the protein Slr1143 is a new Cph2-interacting regulatory factor which modulates motility under red light.
