We implemented 3D confocal microscopy, deconvolution and computational image-analysis algorithms for the quantitative comparison of protein network architectures. We found 8 distinctive morphological features between two closely-related isoforms, FtsZ1-2 and FtsZ2-1, proving that our method is capable of detecting subtle network variations. Thus, this computational pipeline can be effectively used to study the influences of various test conditions and treatments on protein network morphology in vivo.
