Nelson and colleagues demonstrate how intermediate progenitors (IPs) pioneer the migration during hippocampal dentate gyrus formation to guide and support later emigrating, Sox9+ neural progenitors (NPCs). The contacts of IPS with NPCs might be mediated through interactions via Delta-Notch signals.
