The recent review highlights the advances of mosses and their application and potential in Biotechnology. Due to their outstanding, unique features and their applicability for cultivation in large scale bioreactor systems some moss species have been employed to produce metabolites or biopharmaceuticals e.g. involved in complement regulation and signalling, as well as for implementation as passive biomonitoring devices.
