Here we report the comparison of a new passive air sampler device, a “moss sphere”, with conventional bulk deposition and particulate matter sampling devices. The moss sphere is filled with a Sphagnum palustre clone cultivated in moss bioreactor systems. Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were sampled at 10 sites with different levels of air pollution from two different climate zones. The described results indicate the applicability of this innovative moss spheres to monitor airborne PAH levels.
