Endothelial cells are a highly specialized cell type with marked diversity between different organs or vascular beds. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome of isolated cardiac endothelial cells. Cardiac endothelial cells exhibit a distinct gene expression profile within the heart and when compared to endothelial cells from the kidney, brain or lung. The results from this study provide a comprehensive resource of gene expression and transcriptional control in cardiac endothelial cells. New candidate genes that arise from our analysis are promising targets for future evaluation.
