Proteins often form filamentous networks where the network morphology provides keys to its function. Until now, analysis of protein networks has been qualitative due to the lack of appropriate computational methods. By using high-resolution 3D confocal image datasets of FtsZ networks in moss, we developed a semi-automatic digital image analysis method capable of extracting structural features of protein networks from confocal image data, evaluating 25 different element and shape descriptors.
