More on Signalhaus

BIOSS’s laboratories, offices and classrooms in the Signalhaus are clustered around an inner courtyard, which is also used as an open-air auditorium for events. The circular corridor of each floor overlooks the courtyard and also has little areas between the offices with electronic screens and comfortable seating where researchers can sit and chat, making the work environment at BIOSS even more productive. The Facilities Management of the University of Freiburg commissioned the architectural firm ARGE in Waldkirch with the building’s design. The property is owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg and is located across from the Botanical Gardens and the University of Freiburg’s Faculty of Biology. As the headquarters of BIOSS, Signalhaus Freiburg marks an important step in the advancement of fundamental medical and biological research at the University of Freiburg, while also optimising and facilitating the already close-knit collaboration between the different research groups at BIOSS.
